Announcing the 2013 winner of the Anthem Competition of the First Baptist Church of Worcester, Massachusetts
The winning entry of the 7th Annual Anthem Competition of the First Baptist Church of Worcester, Massachusetts is by Scott Perkins of Greencastle, Indiana where he is on the music faculty teaching theory, musicianship and composition. Dr. Perkins won with his anthem entitled Peace I Leave with You based on John 14:23, 25-28 NRSV, for SATB choir, organ and harp. Scott earned his Ph.D. in composition with minors in music theory and music history at the Eastman School of Music, where his primary teacher was Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon. He holds master’s degrees in both music theory and music theory pedagogy from Eastman, and he has a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in music theory and composition with a sub-concentration in vocal performance from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. He has also coached with composers Louis Andriessen and Jake Heggie, soprano Tony Arnold, and librettist Mark Campbell, among others.
His anthem Peace I Leave with You will be premiered on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the 10:00 AM service at First Baptist Church, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester, Massachusetts. This performance will be presented by the Chancel Choir, harp and organ with William Ness conducting.
