Serve with FBC Woo

“It’s never too late, friends. We’re never too young; we’re never too old; we’re never too damaged or worn or fragile for God to use us. The promise of God is alive in each and every one of us. So, go. And bloom.” -Rev. Brent Newberry

At FBCWoo, we seek to find creative ways to be like Christ as we serve our community and beyond. This can be as simple as buying grocery cards to support Hope for Housing, but can also mean helping local refugee families, or knitting warm clothing, or covering overnight shifts at the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) house for homeless families, or teaming up with other organizations serving Worcester and the world. In 2019-2020, we focused on how we can team up with schools in our city to address issues regarding education. We’d love to have you join us.

Some of the ways we serve include:

  • Helping local refugee families and families in need
  • Knitting warm clothing (knitting group meets weekly on Wednesdays 1-3 PM)
  • A Little Free Pantry on the church property
  • Supporting the local Hope for Housing organization by buying grocery cards
  • Serving meals at the Mustard Seed on the last Tuesday of the month
  • Hosting a Heifer International Living Gift Market
  • Teaming up with Second Chance Animal Shelter to provide discounted vaccinations at our Blessing of the Animals service
  • Buying Christmas presents for children of prisoners through Angel Tree
  • Donating to local and global organizations that serve people such as the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts (TABCOM)  White Cross, Elm Park Ministries, International Ministries, Interfaith Hospitality Network.
  • Joining with other American Baptists in mission trips

Volunteer at FBC

There are also many ways you can volunteer in our local church. In First Baptist Church, volunteers are engaged in vital activities that keep our congregation running smoothly. We welcome any type of volunteer service. Do you have a special talent or skill to share with the church? There’s a place for you!

Current Needs

Coat Drive

FBC is partnering with “Coats for Kids” to collect NEW coats, hats, gloves, and scarves in children’s sizes to help keep Worcester’s kids warm this winter. For the month of November, there will be a bin in the Narthex marked “Coats for Kids” every Sunday, or you can drop donations off at the church office Tuesday-Friday, anytime between 10 a.m., and 2 p.m. until December 1st.

Knitting Group

The FBC Knitting Group meets every Wednesday from 1-3 PM in the Lee room. Needles and yarn are provided. If you don’t know how to knit, we’ll teach you!
