At First Baptist Church we believe that children and young people are vital to our faith community. There are many opportunities for children and youth to participate in our worship and fellowship life.
The Youth Group
The Youth Group is a diverse and energetic group of young people comprised of 8th-12th graders. They have various meetings and programs throughout the year that center around building community, community action, faith formation and social justice. Our activities have included participation in: Heifer Project, Walk for Hunger, Worcester Pride Parade, etc. The Youth Group also enjoys hanging out, playing pool and getting to know one another.
The Family Fellowship is an opportunity for children and youth of all ages, together with their families, to engage in a variety of programs. This group meets occasionally during the program year, and is really focused on getting the families of the church together to play and have fun. Activities for the Family Fellowship have included: a Halloween Party, sledding, trips to children’s theater performances, parks and museums.
Sunday Morning Worship
Our children and youth are encouraged to be active participants in our Sunday morning Worship Service. The youth occasionally participate as ushers, greeters, and also read scripture. In addition, a Children’s Message is a regular feature of the Morning Worship Service. Following this time, the children (K-6th grade) leave the formal service for Children’s Worship, an age-appropriate program that mirrors adult worship. During this time, the children have the opportunity to learn about their faith in fun and tangible ways. Each year, we set aside several days to serve as “Youth Week”, in which youth plan and participate in the Sunday Morning Worship Service. College age Youth Alumni also have the opportunity to lead a service during the program year.
