First Baptist Church invites composers from all over the world to participate in the Twelfth Annual International Anthem Competition. The Chancel Choir performs the world debut of the winning anthem at First Baptist Church, under the direction of the winning composer. The competition is open to composers under the age of 40, born after January 2, 1978, and offers a $1400 prize. The deadline for submissions is April 2, 2018.
All melodies must be original and not based on hymntunes or preexistent tunes of other composers. The text for the anthem is drawn from the Latin Vulgate of Genesis 1:26-28:
Text: Faciamus hominem ad imaginem et similitudinem nostrum
Et creavit Deus hominem ad imaginem suam: ad imaginem Dei creavit illum. Benedixitque ills Deus.
Translation: Let us make mankind in our image and likeness; And God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them. God blessed them.
All entries will be judged blind without reference to the composer. Electronic submissions are preferable and are accepted until April 2nd, 2018 by email to email@example.com in pdf format with proper cover letter for identification.
The winner will be announced by April 13, 2018. An official first performance will be given by the Chancel Choir and Minister of Music, Wesley Hall, at First Baptist Church on the Sunday of Music & Arts Week in April 2018.
